We recently were contacted by a customer to install power into their metal garage in Tamworth.
Cables had to be run through the house at ceiling level - an old house and the customer did not want to lift the floors -and along external walls in conduit to a waterproof external box. Then on down a 40m run of SWA run in a trench - diligently dug by Harry and the mini digger through the lawn to the new metal garages at the end of the garden. All covered over with inches of sand and gravel with a danger tape on top before the soil and grass.
We ran Steel Wire Armoured cable up through the floor and glanded to a junction box. Earth isolated from the Steel Wire Armoured cable to create an earth island to prevent problems ever happening with loss of neutral supply to the property. Earth rod installed and earth run to the consumer unit.
Garage circuits protected by 30ma RCD, and separated for easy control. Lights, Sockets - This side, Sockets - Other side. Bonding to the metal structure to ensure any current going where it shouldn’t is handled safely..
Plenty of lighting with 2 6ft LED battens as the windows in the roof provide little useful light, and allow use all year around.
Metal sockets were installed on each side cabled in thick heat resistant insulated cable as this is going to a hard working garage.
